Every drive, logged by itself

It goes on sale once its radio testing and paperwork are done.
What it does
- Records every drive by itself: speed, engine readings, fault codes and the GPS route
- Uploads over your Wi-Fi or your phone's hotspot when you park, and during a long drive when it stops near a network it knows
- Or your phone carries the drives over Bluetooth, by itself after each drive if you turn that on
- The check-engine light and new fault codes by email, in plain words
- Logbook, fuel and costs, every trip on a map, graphs, 3D replays, in the Ridgewake app
- Updates itself over Wi-Fi, or from the app over Bluetooth

Specifications
| Connector box | Plugs into the OBD-II port and stays there. About 55 x 55 mm and 23 mm out of the port, made to lie flat behind the port's cover. It talks to the main box over Bluetooth Low Energy. |
|---|---|
| It only reads | The connector box asks the car only for readings, fault codes and the vehicle's details. Anything else is refused before it reaches the car. |
| Parked | The connector box sleeps after five minutes parked, waking for a moment every few seconds to see whether the car has started. |
| Main box | Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth, a memory card for the drives, GPS, three lights and a button. About 124 x 126 x 29 mm. |
| Power | The main box runs from a USB car charger, so it is off whenever the charger is. The connector box takes its power from the port. |
| Cars | Cars and light trucks that speak CAN on their OBD-II port: most from 2008 on in North America, and many earlier. Older K-line cars: see the K-line logger. |
| Trucks and boats | J1939 trucks and tractors, and NMEA 2000 boats, through a connector box with their plug: it listens only. |
| Wi-Fi | Up to three networks, 2.4 GHz (most home routers have it). Set up from the app: no setup page to join. |
| The button | A quick press: look for your phone, then upload. Two quick presses: let a new phone in. Hold 10 seconds: forget everything (before you sell it). |
| Label | The claim code: what adds it to your account and unlocks it from your phone. Keep it private. |
| The app | Ridgewake, free for iPhone and Android. The app |
